Kopi Luwak

Kopi Luwak is a rare and exotic coffee produced from the finest ARABICA beans and the WILD Luwak (Asian Palm Civet, also known as Paradoxurus Hermaphroditus), all the way from the mountains of central Aceh in Sumatra Island. Since the seventeenth century when Arabica beans began to be widely cultivated, Kopi Luwak has enjoyed an international reputation for its superior quality and its special flavor.

The Sumatra island is also the home of Luwak, the certain creatures that also could be found in Java, Bali, and Sulawesi in the Indonesian Archipelago.

Kopi Luwak is made from coffee beans that have been eaten by a small tree-dwelling animal, the Asian Palm Civet. Ripe red coffee cherries are one of the favorite foods of civet, or luwak, as it is called in Indonesian. The Luwak consumes the cherries, fermented in its digestive system where a unique combination of stomach enzymes break down the protein that give coffee its bitter taste. The inner beans are intactly passed, still encased in their protective hulls, then collected, thoroughly cleaned, sun-dried and lightly roasted to preserve their complex distinct flavors and aromas.
